Soil Nematodes as a Means of Conservation of Soil Predatory Mites for Biocontrol

نویسندگان

چکیده

Numerous lab and field studies have reported the potential of soil predatory mites for biological control plant-parasitic nematodes arthropods pests. Most these utilized biocontrol agents in augmentative releases, essentially controlling pest with released predators. While this may be a valid approach, we hypothesize that conservation mite predators available, suitable, accessible free-living as prey, will provide better agricultural ecosystem performance long-range sustainability. In manuscript, review relevant on mite–nematode interactions highlight their soil-borne Additionally, emphasize importance implementing environmentally sound management practices sustainability functional food webs.

The effect of different compost-soil ratios on the incidence of Pythium aphanidermatum causing tomato damping off was tested in a greenhouse experiment. The inoculum density of 5% was determined to be suitable for inoculation in compost experiments based on investigations of disease incidence with 5, 10 and 20% inoculum densities. To evaluate the effect of compost on incidence of tomato damping...

Avian Conservation Areas as a Proxy for Contaminated Soil Remediation

Remediation prioritization frequently falls short of systematically evaluating the underlying ecological value of different sites. This study presents a novel approach to delineating sites that are both contaminated by any of eight heavy metals and have high habitat value to high-priority species. The conservation priority of each planning site herein was based on the projected distributions of...

Soil nematodes in terrestrial ecosystems.

There has been much work on plant-feeding nematodes, and less on other soil nematodes, their distribution, abundance, intrinsic properties, and interactions with biotic and abiotic factors. Seasonal variation in nematode fauna as a whole is correlated with factors such as moisture, temperature, and plant growth; at each site nematode distribution generally reflects root distribution. There is a...

Using nematodes in soil ecotoxicology.

Nematodes represent a very abundant group of soil organisms and non-parasitic species are important for soil quality and in the soil food web. In recent years, it has been shown that nematodes are appropriate bioindicators of soil condition and they are also suitable organisms for laboratory toxicity testing. The aims of this paper are to overview and critically assess methods and approaches fo...
